What is the difference between a jazz band and a swing band?
It all boils down to speciality. Since its inception, jazz has evolved into many forms and styles. Swing is a specific style of jazz — it is upbeat, danceable, and “swingable” thus the name. More often than not, a swing band will have one or a few vocalists. Swing-style jazz came into popularity in the 1930s and continue to endure today. That said, a solid jazz band with good foundations or training should be able to play swing music without a problem.
