“Curtis Watts productions went above and beyond our expectations. They brought great sound and colorful lights. Furthermore, we went with a roaring 20s theme for our wedding so the entire band came dressed up. They played live jazz, rythm and blues that got the guests out of their seats. Everyone had an amazing time.”

– Adama Z., married on March 2021

Jazz music plays a huge role in wedding ceremonies and receptions. This genre can swing from soulful to romantic to upbeat with the smoothness that it’s known for, making it perfect for such a special event as your wedding. From the ceremony itself to the reception, there are several ways you can incorporate jazz into your wedding day.

You can hire a wedding jazz band to perform during the ceremony and reception. Or, you can book a jazz duo or trio to provide background music throughout the day. Either way, a jazz band will add some flair to your special occasion.

There’s a wide range of styles available, including big bands, swing, Latin jazz, and many others. If you’re looking for something specific, we recommend that you get in touch with us so we can find the perfect musician for your Big Day.

INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ BAND FOR THE CEREMONY

Jazz has long been used as party music but it also has its place in the wedding ceremony.

Instrumental jazz of classic songs like Neil Armstrong’s A Wonderful World and Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra make great preludes as your guests find their seats.

For the processional, a jazz pianist, perhaps accompanied by a vocalist, can create a moving and romantic atmosphere that befits the bride’s grand entrance.

Other parts of the ceremony that can benefit from the soothing rhythms of jazz include the document signing and recessional as well.

JAZZ BANDS FOR YOUR RECEPTION

Turn your cocktail hour into a magical moment when your friends and family can bond over drinks and some smooth jazz music before dinner.

As the meal is served, our experienced jazz bands can play some of the classics that will have everyone tapping their feet and eager to take on the dance floor.

Whether your reception is a black-tie event or something more laid-back like a garden reception, there is jazz style that’s perfect for your day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HIRING A JAZZ BAND FOR WEDDINGS

How much does it cost to hire a jazz band for a wedding?

We get this question a lot so we wrote a blog post about it here: HOW MUCH DO WEDDING MUSICIANS COST?

Frankly, this is a difficult question to answer for any musician or entertainment company like us before all the details of the event are known. There are plenty of factors that can affect the final price including the size of the band you need, your location, the length of the event, the equipment needed, and any other requests you might have. The best way to get a realistic estimate is to contact us.

What styles of jazz and swing do you offer and what's the difference?

CW Productions’ jazz bands can cover all styles of jazz including traditional jazz, modern jazz, swing, and jazz soul fusion.

For wedding receptions, our bands along with a jazz vocalist are asked to perform jazz-soul fusion quite a lot. Their sets include popular hits from soul artists like Nina Simone, Nat King Cole, Ela Fitzgerald, and Michael Buble, among others.

If you’re seeking old-timey and happy tunes that were played in a lot of the clubs in the 40s and 50s, then swing music is for you. Lots of trumpets, sax, and base that are perfect for dinner and dancing.

Traditional and modern jazz can be played by a quartet or trio and are the perfect background for a drinks reception, cocktail hour, or dinner party. Some examples of traditional jazz and modern jazz music include: When You and I Were Young – Monty Sunshine Quartet, Delia’s Gone – Acker Bilk, Honey Babe – Alex Welsh, Close To You – Gerald Albright, and many more.

Can I make a song request?

Yes! If you want a specific song played at your wedding ceremony or reception, just let us know early on. Our jazz musicians take their time learning and rehearsing the songs they’ll perform so it’s important to give them advanced notice if you want to hear something specific.

However, keep in mind that song requests are rarely granted on the day of the event itself. As much as we’d like to indulge every guest with their special song, it’s not just possible for a number of reasons.

Is jazz the right entertainment for your wedding reception?

Jazz is such a wide genre. It can be energetic, bluesy, mellow, sophisticated, and the list goes on. It’s no wonder that it’s universally popular. Everyone loves at least one kind of jazz music. Moreover, a live jazz band will bring a unique set of skills to your wedding reception that a traditional DJ alone simply cannot offer. They can engage the audience in a way that feels personal and memorable.

If you are unsure about what kind of jazz is right for your wedding, don’t worry. We can help sort that out for you! Or if you love jazz music but you don’t think it’s the right kind of entertainment for the rest of the night, we also have entertainment solutions for that: Combo Musicians.
